Madonna is an American singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, record producer, dancer, and film director. Also known as The Queen of Pop, Madonna is one of the most infuential artists in the world, and also one of the highest-grossing individual touring ones. Let’s learn more about her life, career, and earnings.
On 16th August, 1958, in Bay City, Michigan, U. S., Madonna Louise and Silvio Antony Ciccone brought their daughter Madonna Louise Ciccone into this world. She was born to Catholic family and her Catholic confirmation name is Veronica. She is of Italian, French and Canadian descent.
Her father was an engineer designer for Chrysler and General Motors. Madonna has five siblings: two older brothers, Antony and Martin, and three younger siblings, Paula, Christopher, and Melanie. She also has a step-sister Jennifer and a step-brother Mario, who are her father’s children. Since her mother and she shared the same name, everyone used to call her Little Nonni. Her mother died of breast cancer when Madonna was five years old, which made an enormous effect on her behavior.
Madonna attended St. Frederick’s and St. Andrew’s Catholic Elementary Schools, and West Middle School. She went to classical piano lessons, and later on to ballet lessons. Her high grade point average and being a member of the cheerleading squad in Rochester Adams High School earned her a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan. Unfortunatelly, she dropped out of college.
After finishing her formal education, Madonna moved to New York City, and started working as a waitress, and taking classes at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Soon after she started working as a backup dancer for other established artists.
She co-formed her first rock band called the Breakfast Club, with her then-lover, the French disco artist Patrick Hernandez. After leaving the band, she formed another one, called Emmy. Soon after, she decided to start her solo career. In 1982, her debut song Everybody was released. The song was commercially successful. A year later, she released her debut album Madonna.
In 1984, her second album Like A Virgin was released and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. So far she had released a total of 13 major studio albums which contained many hit singles. Those albums include: True Blue (1986), Life A Prayer (1989), Erotica (1992), Bedtime Stories (1994), Ray of Light (1998), Music (2000), American Life (2003), Confessions On A Dance Floor (2005), Hard Candy (2008), MDNA (2012), and Rebel Heart (2015).
Apart from her musical career, Madonna has been featured in some films including: The Next Best Thing (2000), Swept Away (2002), Die Another Day (2002), I’m Going To Tell You A Secret (2005) and Arthur And The Invisibles (2006).
Madonna had been married two times: to an American actor Sean Penn (1985-1989), and to a British director Guy Ritchie (2000-2008). She has two biological children: a daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, and a son Rocco John Ritchie. She adopted four other children.
Madonna’s net worth is estimated up to $900 million. It is believed that it will grow bigger with years to come.
