On 10th March, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, U. S. Wilma and Ray Dee Norris brought their son Carlos Ray Norris into this world. His father was a World War II Army soldier, a mechanic, bus driver, and truck driver. Norris has Irish and Cherokee roots. He has two younger brothers, Wieland and Aaron. Norris’ parents got divorced when he was 16. After that, his mother, his brothers and he lived in Prairie Village, Kansas, before they moved to Torrance, California.

In 1958, Norris joined the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman (AP). He was sent to Osan Air Base, South Korea, where he trained in Tang Soo Do. After his return to the U. S., he continued to serve as an AP at March Air Force Base in California. In 1962, he was discharged from the U. S. Air Force, and applied to be a police officer.

While he was on a waiting list for the job, he decided to open a martial arts studio, and also to participate in martial arts competitions. With time, he got better and better, and five years later, he opened a chain of karate schools. Some of celebrities attended his schools, including Steve McQueen, Chad McQueen, Bob Barker, Priscilla Presley, Donny Osmond, and Marie Osmond. After winning numerous martial arts championships, Norris founded his own discipline Chun Kuk Do.

In 1969, Norris made his acting debut with the film The Wrecking Crew. Three years later, he starred alongside Bruce Lee in martial arts film Way of the Dragon. So far, he starred in numerous films and television shows. Norris wrote several books, including two bestsellers The Secret Of Inner Strength: My Story (1988), and Black Belt Patriotism: How To Reawaken America (2008).

In 1990, he became the first-ever Westerner in the history of Tae Kwon Do to be given the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt Grand Master.

From 1958 to 1989, Chuck Norris was married to his classmate Dianne Holechek. They share two sons, Mike and Eric. Norris also has a daughter who was born of an extramarital affair. In 1998, he married former model Gena O’Kelley, who is 23 years younger than him. She has two children from her previous marriage. Norris and O’Kelley share twins. As of 2017, he has thirteen chandchildren.

Norris is a black belt in Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and Judo.
