Adrian Peterson was born on March 21st, 1985, in Palestine Texas. Both of his parents were athletes in college. His father, Nelson Peterson, played basketball in Idaho and was considered an NBA prospect. Unfortunately, a gun-related accident ended his career. His mother, Bonita Brown, was a three-time Texas state champion in track and field during her time at Westwood High School. She attended the University of Houston, where she competed as a long jumper and sprinter.

Adrian had an older brother Brian, who was killed by a drunk driver when Adrian was nine. The sport was a way for him to cope with the loss and grief. When Adrian was 13, his father was arrested on charges of laundering money for a crack cocaine ring. Adrian attended Palestine High School, where he competed in football, basketball, and track. Even those early years, many predicted him an NFL career, but one of his track coaches said that, had he not chosen football, he would be an Olympic sprinter. Regardless, Adrian decided to pursue a career in football and by his senior year, there were plenty of Division 1 colleges offering him scholarships.

Next year, he suffered a broken foot, yet still managed to be named to the All-Big 12 Conference team. In his junior year, he again had a misfortune and broke his collar bone, missing seven games in the season. During the seven he played, he managed to rush 1,112 yards.

Nevertheless, Peterson believed he can be a gamechanger for any team, saying in an interview: “I’m a player who is coming in with the determination to turn a team around. I want to help my team get to the playoffs, win…and run wild. I want to bring people to the stands. I want people to come to the game to see what I can do next. Things like that can change the whole attitude of an organization. I want to win.”
