British cave diver suing tech billionaire Elon Musk for defamation after claming he is a child abuser

Vernon Unsworth helped with the rescue of 12 Thai teenagers from a flooded cave in July. Mr Musk has made several accusations against Mr Unsworth without evidence, including that he was a "child rapist”. The lawsuit seeks $75,000 (£57,000) in compensation and an injunction against Mr Musk to stop further allegations.

McDonald's workers in 10 cities stage lunchtime walkout over "sexual harassment epidemic"

Emboldened by the #MeToo movement, McDonald’s workers have voted to stage a one-day strike today at restaurants in 10 cities in the hope of pressuring management to take stronger steps against on-the-job sexual harassment. Organisers say it will be the first multistate strike in the US specifically targeting sexual harassment.

Trump imposes new tariffs on $200bn of Chinese goods

The US is imposing new tariffs on $200bn (£150bn) worth of Chinese goods as it escalates its trade war with Beijing. These will apply to almost 6,000 items, marking the biggest round of US tariffs so far. Handbags, rice and textiles will be included, but some items expected to be targeted, such as smartwatches and high chairs, have been excluded. The Chinese commerce ministry said it had no choice but to retaliate.

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa announced as first private passenger who will be flown around the moon 

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced Maezawa will make the trip in the SpaceX Big Falcon Rocket in 2023 on Monday. He will invite six to eight artists, architects, designers and other creative people on the week-long journey. Mr Musk said the 42-year-old entrepreneur, founder of Japan’s largest retail website and one the country’s richest people, will pay “a lot of money” for the trip, but declined to disclose the exact amount.

British talent wInS big at LAST NIGHT'S Emmys

Welsh star Matthew Rhys won the lead actor in a drama series prize for his role in FX’s The Americans, while English actress Claire Foy scooped the equivalent award in the female category for her portrayal of the Queen in Netflix’s The Crown. London-born Thandie Newton won the supporting actress in a drama series for her part in HBO’s sci-fi western, Westworld, and the memorable evening saw Glenn Weiss, winner of the outstanding directing for a variety special, propose to his girlfriend on stage.
