The summer sales can be stressful. They arrive quite suddenly and, before you’ve even had a chance to peruse your favourite shops – be that online or IRL – all the best bits have sold out. Or, you may not have the time to look – which is probably the case for most of us – so may not find that absolute bargain hiding on page 16 of 198 sale buys. This is why I’ve done the browsing on your behalf, to find the best midi dresses with the best discounts. Because nothing feels better than being able to buy the midi you’ve had your eye on for some time, now at a significantly lower price. And, as they’re so versatile (and can be worn all year round), I would say that a midi dress is always a sound investment.

The best 6 summer midis

The embroidered midi

This is one of those dresses that will become your go-to for everything, from summer weddings to dinners out. Floaty enough to wear on hot days with sandals, you could also dress it up with block heels and some jazzy earrings.

The floral midi

You can't go wrong with a long-sleeved midi and, thanks to the sheer fabric, you can wear this one in the summer months without overheating. Then, come tights season, you can pair it with your black opaques and some ankle boots. The ruffles make it feel fancy, but an elasticated waist means it's super comfy and flattering, too.

The holiday midi

This is the ultimate holiday dress, in that you can throw it on and go, but it still looks stylish and like you've spent a long time thinking about your outfit. Minimum effort, maximum reward, which is what holidays are all about, after all. A pair of chunky heels or tan sandals will look the part when you're poolside, but it also wouldn't look out of place with some white trainers and a denim jacket back at home.

The smart midi

There's nothing more boring than having to agonise over your work wardrobe every day. A midi dress is obviously a good option, given that it's a ready-made outfit that doesn't require lots of faffing. A shirt dress makes it feel more work-appropriate. While this one has long sleeves, the floral print makes it feel light and summery – it'll take you into the weekend, as well. Best of all, it's half price.

The everyday midi

Comfort is key in the hottest months of the year, particularly when it's humid and sticky. This sun dress is the perfect solution to unpredictable weather – it'll keep you cool on super hot days but can also be layered over T-shirts or under leather jackets, depending on the forecast.

The going-out midi

Whether you're going to what feels like endless amounts of weddings or just want something new to wear on a night out with your mates, this dress will fit the bill. The kimono-style sleeves suit everyone and are really comfy, too. Perfect if you're going to be anywhere near a dancefloor and want to bust some moves.
