I swear by mascara for its ability to make knackered eyes look spectacular. It's a desert island product, no doubt. Except that, if the recent clammy weather is anything to go by, mine wouldn't last two minutes on a desert island before smudging its way onto my brow bone and under my eyes. Which, if you're heading off to sunnier climes (hello holiday), or just melting on the bus, is probably not ideal. Lucky for us, there's a bevy of brilliant waterproof formulas out there that the Pool team have been meticulously trialling. Just make sure you pick up an oil-based cleanser like this one by Lancome to make removing it a doddle.
The Pool's Pick of the best waterproof mascaras
BEST FOR RAINY COMMUTeS: LUCY DUNN'S PICK
I picked up No7's Lash Impact Waterproof Mascara after carefully applying my mascara in the morning, only to find it halfway down my cheeks by the time I've cycled to the station. The brush is quite slimline and it gives a nice defined look (no clumps), which I like.
Best for MORNING SWIMS: Amy Jones' pick
This has a manageable, straight brush that enables me to get into the corners of my lashes and gives really pretty fluttery lashes. Plus, it lasts through a swim.
Best for holding a curl: Frankie Graddon's pick
This is expensive but it offers a deep colour and holds a curl really well. Use a lash curler then add a couple of coats to make your eyes look wide awake. It comes in both black and brown and smells of roses (a completely irrelevant but nevertheless lovely detail).
Best for MAKING LASHES LOOK LONGER: Emily Baker's pick
I love how black this is and it gives good amount of volume. Despite having quite short lashes, I only need one or two swishes of the brush to look like they're super long.
BEST FOR THICKENING THIN LASHES: HANNAH BANKS-WALKER'S PICK
Not only does this mascara not budge, it also makes my eyelashes really long and thick. People always ask me what mascara I'm using when I wear it – it's that good. I've even got the blue one as well, which is great for days when you want to look less tired.
Best for NO CLUMPS: Alex Haddow's pick
I hate clumpy-looking lashes which is why this is brilliant. The plastic wand has carefully spaced bristles that catch each an every hair, evenly coats them and separates. Wriggle it through from root to tip.
Best for THE naturaL look: Elle Turner's pick
This looks like my lashes, but better. They won't look huge and glam, just subtly healthy and full. Brilliant if you're heading to the gym and want your lashes to look fluttery and defined without feeling to 'done'.
