I don’t know what’s going on. It’s all very confusing. Having forever been a firm “lipstick person”, I am having a serious wobble. The slick of red that was once the answer to all my “shit-face-days” is just not doing it for me. I can’t get the right shade. Or a texture that sits well. Several times over the last few weeks I’ve swiped on a long-time favourite only to grab a tissue and rub it off again. I’ve lost my lipstick mojo. I’m having a meltdown.
Are the stars misaligned? Is Jupiter in retrograde? Who knows. What I do know is that my face is on the floor (cursed central heating), my hair’s gone weird and I need a quick fix like never before. So now what?
Tinted lip balm – that’s what. Specifically Weleda’s new tinted lip balm which I’ve been using like there’s no tomorrow. It comes in three tints – berry, nude and rose – and gives enough colour to cheer everything up but feels very low maintenance. I’m a particular fan of the berry which gives a “I’ve been chomping on beetroot” look. The finish is “natural shine” rather than glossy and it feels buttery-smooth to apply.
Packed with natural oils (olive, jojoba, sunflower), it’s also supremely moisturising, which – if your lips look anything like mine right now – is a very good thing. On the subject of which, if you have very dry skin and don’t mind a rich moisturiser then try the Skin Food cream – truly excellent.
Will I get my lipstick mojo back? Let's hope so. But in the meantime, here's to tinted lip balm.
