The de-stress Christmas countdown

Five top tips to make the Christmas frenzy that bit better

It's the week before Christmas and instead of feeling joyful and triumphant, you feel a bit knackered. Weeks of snacking on mince pies, drinks with friends and looming deadlines have added to the strain and there's still the matter of last-minute gifts to tackle. What you need is a pick-me-up. A simple skin-, mind- or body-perking treat to relieve stress and reinstate calm. Here are some things to help...

Forget gold, frankincense and myrrh – if you're looking for a godsend, Soap & Glory's Puffy Eye Attack hydragel patches are salvation for knackered eyes. Soaked in a skin-pepping solution of cucumber juice to cool and liquorice root extract to de-puff, they'll help to moisturise dry irritated eyes and will wake them up instantly. Keep on your desk and apply at your computer when you're in need.

4 days to go: your head is throbbing up a storm and everything hurts

There's nothing worse than trying to focus when it feels like Dave Grohl is knocking out a drumroll inside your head. Whizz Tisserand's genius Head Clear Roller Ball over the pressure points (temples) on your forehead when your head feels near to exploding. Cooling mint, lavender and lemon oil will help to restore zen and clear your sinuses, plus it's small enough to throw in your handbag and use on the go.

3 Days to go: Your shoulders are up around your ears

Before bed, slather yourself in Aveda's Stress Fix Body Lotion. The aroma (lavender, lavandin and clary sage) is proven to reduce stress and, massaged firmly into knotty shoulders, it will help to see off aches and pains. Plus, the hydrating formula will soothe super-thirsty winter skin.

2 Days to go: You don't feel remotely festive and need to get in the mood – fast

You'd be hard pushed to find a more festive scent than Cowshed's Winter Candle, a completely cheery affair with pine, cinnamon and all the trimmings (amber, cassis and Siberian fir tree). It smells exactly how Christmas should and will get you thinking of mulled wine and nights in front of the fire pronto.

1 day to go: It's the night before Christmas and while you're desperate to get some kip, the kids are hyper

Bloom & Blossom's Baby Sleep Bedtime Bath Milk can be used on the whole family and smells like a good night's sleep in a bottle (ylang-ylang, camomile and lavender) to help you all drift off. The milky lotion will make your skin feel just like velvet. Merry Christmas, one and all.
