Tina Fey wants us to eat cake in the face of fascism

The comedian is (hilariously) urging protesters to not engage in future neo-Nazi marches

It’s hard to put into words how devastating and infuriating the news of Charlottesville is, but Tina Fey has found a good temporary way to deal with it: stuff your face with cake.

The comedian appeared on SNL’s Weekend Update yesterday to share her tactics for coping with the rise of the so-called alt-right. “Instead of participating in the screaming matches and potential violence, find a local business you support – maybe a Jewish bakery, or an African-American-run… bakery,” she explains. “Order a cake with the American flag on it and just eat it.”

As well as eating the cake (and your feelings), the sponge is also a sound-absorbing surface to scream at. Tina takes down Trump, Nazis, right-wing commentator Ann Coulter and Paul Ryan, all with the help of a cake. When things get really bad, use the cake as a dip for your grilled cheese sandwich, she suggests.

Tina’s message is clear – Nazism is always, always bad. These people are violent and dangerous. Instead of engaging with them in screaming matches, buy a cake, eat it and read this open google doc of ways to help. There are ways to make a difference away from the fascists.
