The cost of an engagement ring can be eye-watering, and the pressure of finding the perfect fit for your spouse-to-be could turn a wonderful event in your life into a nightmare. So perhaps Poundland is tapping into something with its £1 engagement rings.
The high-street store calls its rings “beautiful placeholders because they'll want to buy their own”.
The Bling Ring range includes gold and silver rings, with red or blue stones, each presented in a heart-shaped box. Unfortunately, you’re not getting a bargain on a two-carat diamond – the rings are made with cubic zirconia and have fake gemstones stuck on top.
But this option means you can plan your big – or low-key – proposal, and get to choose the perfect ring together or take as much time as you need to save. It also means you won’t be disappointed if your loved one doesn’t get it quite right. “We're looking forward to the Poundland proposal becoming the way it's done," the store told Press Association.
We’ve all had the Christmas flurry of recent engagements, but with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s fair to say there’ll be a few more in coming weeks. Maybe some will go via Poundland to pop the question.
