Forget the spangles of Strictly, it was Jodie Whittaker’s debut Doctor Who outfit that had everyone talking on Sunday

As the first female Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker made history before the first episode of the new season even aired. But, with an average of 8.2 million people tuning in to the first episode on Sunday 10 October, the new Doctor smashed the previous records set by the male doctors, including David Tennant, Peter Capaldi and Matt Smith. She also inspired a social-media frenzy, thanks to her outfit, which she sourced (spoiler alert) in a charity shop during the episode. Hundreds took to Twitter to ask the programme’s costume designer, Ray Holman, a range of questions about Whittaker’s look in the show, which included her striped jumper and – wait for it – a bum bag.

There’s already a full Doctor Who costume available on eBay (in case you’re looking for Halloween inspiration). Given that it’s the season of dressing like our favourite TV characters, it comes as no surprise that the high street has already tapped into the Doctor’s new look. With her velvet jacket and hiking boots, the Doctor is very autumn/winter 2018.

The new Doctor's outfit also included a bum bag

In fact, from trousers with braces to rainbow-striped jumpers, several styles have already started selling out (case in point: striped jumpers from Urban Outfitters and Next and Sezane’s corduroy trousers). And jewellery brand Alex Monroe announced on Instagram that it's responsible for the Doctor's ear cuff.  So, if you’re fervently googling the Doctor’s new look, here’s where you can find it…
