Fashion advertising isn’t exactly known for its inclusivity or diversity. It’s not unusual to hear of a campaign being accused of racism, ageism – or, as recently as this week, playing to tired, sexist stereotypes. Yet, Lonely and Mercy Brewer’s newest campaign is a welcome breath of fresh air. The model has been featured in the new ads for the New Zealand lingerie company and she looks unapologetically incredible.

Brewer has been a model since the 80s – she was a punk and lived in squats at the time. Since then, she’s walked at various fashion weeks and Vivienne Westwood once told her that she “worked her silver sequin sheath dress better than Linda Evangelista”.

Lonely has a great track record when it comes to diversity in their advertising. Last year, Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke modelled a collection with unretouched photos and one campaign featured nine real women of all shapes and races, including transgender model Aurel Haize Odogbo.

Of the campaign, Brewer told Elle, “I believe we are in a moment in time where older women's beauty has been a startling revelation. If we don't recognise it, we, every one of us, deny ourselves a future to look forward to.”
