If denim had to belong to any season, it would surely be autumn. While the summer weather is undoubtedly a distant memory, it’s certainly not cold enough to warrant a winter wardrobe. With fluctuating temperatures and inevitable rainy days, denim seems the most failsafe option. Whether you’re in the market for a new pair of jeans or on the hunt for an in-between jacket, The Pool team tried on some of the best new-season denim so you don’t have to. If you thought jeans shopping was a chore, think again…
Frankie: The denim SHIRT
You just can't go wrong with a classic denim shirt – I've had various iterations for as long as I can remember and always get tremendous wear out of them. In my opinion, double denim is always a yes, so I'll happily tuck a denim shirt into my jeans for a laid-back weekend look (NB make sure the wash of your shirt is different from your jeans to stop it looking too Canadian Tuxedo). Denim shirts are also brilliant for layering, particularly in autumn. I'd wear one over a long-sleeved Breton when the weather calls for an additional layer, or pop one underneath a long-line cardigan. I love the mixture of denim with this season's brown and rust colour palette – very 70s, in the chicest of ways.
Amy: The indigo jean
Short, chunky-thighed and generous of hip and belly, I really struggle to find jeans that fit me properly, and I almost never find ones in which I like how I look. I was genuinely flabbergasted, therefore, when I tried these on. They were comfortable, in the perfect blue wash and structured enough that I felt sexy, but stretchy enough that I felt like I could breathe. I could happily wear these every day for the rest of my life. I love the details on them, too, like the embossed button and the leather patch on the back.
Sam: The CROP-FLARE jeans
I am always on the hunt for the perfect boyfriend jeans. If I could, I'd wear them seven days a week, with everything, from parkas and combat jackets at the weekend to suit jackets and tuxedos during the week. So, I've been looking for a pair that are slightly smarter than my scruffed-up AND/OR Venice Beach ones. This pair were a great fit, slightly wider than a boyfriend jean on the leg and look a bit lived-in, which I love.
Cate: The black skinnies
Trying on new jeans isn't fun. Worse than trying on bras but, of course, never as bad as finding a suitable swimming costume – basically, it's never fun, no matter how body-positive you are. Saying that, trying on these skinny black jeans was easy – so easy, in fact, that I was almost suspicious. The size I think I am was in fact the size I needed, they fit incredibly well and were so comfortable. Definitely my new staple for autumn.
