I have just returned from New York where fashion month is in full swing, and, the verdict? It’s freezing. Unbelievably so. Full respect to all of those glossy editors who managed any semblance of stylishness for I was dressed as a well-made bed all weekend and have only just thawed out. If it wasn't for Heattech vests and snow boots, I’d still be frozen somewhere between Spring and Broadway. Brrr.
But enough of that. What of the clothes? What are we going to be wearing in a mere matter of months? Well, according to Calvin Klein, blazers. According to Victoria Beckham, roll necks. And according to J.Crew, slouchy trousers. Hello Annie Hall. As for the other big trend? That was seen off the catwalk rather than on it, and by this I mean biker jackets.
“Those again”, I hear you say. Ahhh, but these are biker jackets 2.0 – the spring 2017 souped-up version.
Cropped, coloured, embellished and shiny, these were positively rife among the New York fashion lot and are just the ticket for right now. Bored to the back teeth of your winter coat and not sure what to wear next? That would be a biker.
I’m still wearing my old black one from Topshop which had a hefty price tag at the time but has proved itself cost per wear – try this leather one. Whistles have classic styles in burgundy, navy, pale pink and khaki – they are pricey but butter-soft and last. For something non-committal try Zara’s sliver number (very Saint Laurent) or H&M’s high-shine coated jacket (shiny jackets, bags and shoes = big news for spring). If you’re worried about warmth then get yourself a slim padded gilet and stick it underneath. Mine from Uniqlo makes me look like a jockey but does the job brilliantly.
