Question: “What’s on your shopping wish list?”
Answer: “Where do we begin?”
New boots, swanky handbags, dazzling earrings, cosy coats – the possibilities are (fabulously) endless. And, as we move towards Christmas, everything takes on an extra-glossy, festive glow. 'Tis undoubtedly the season to have a shop.
Of course, everyone knows that plotting your purchase is *almost* as fun as buying the thing itself, and that window shopping (and, of course, making Pinterest boards) is a good way of avoiding all those rash buys you purchase at midnight and regret the next morning. So, what's on our dream fashion rail? We've compiled a list here.
"I'm having a real Dorothy moment with these shoes – look at all that sparkle! The flat Mary Jane shape is reminiscent of recent catwalk styles and they are wonderfully practical for schlepping around town (or dancing until the wine runs out). I'd wear these with my new navy cords and a chunky jumper for days that need a bit of glitz, or with a velvet trouser suit for evening.
"I am desperate for a beautifully fitting, checked blazer to wear with my jeans and Arket's wool number is the best I've found on the high street. The double-breasted buttons are very 'right now' and give the jacket a great shape, but I'd also wear it open over a dress or T-shirt next spring."
"I've had my eye on this coat ever since it first dropped in store. I love a 'mannish' cut – lots of room for jumpers underneath. I'm newly converted to green (but not *too* green) and the check fabric is gorgeous – warm and thick, but not too heavy. I know this, because I've tried it on – and stroked it – several times!
"OK, bear with me, I know these boots are a bit nuts and not remotely practical (purple velvet, come on....), but I need them all the same. They're my version of fantasy dressing-up and I'm envisaging wearing them with a black and gold midi dress I bought recently for a friend's wedding at every Christmas party I go to."
"I've recently been to New York and, during my many hours' wandering the streets of SoHo, I clocked loads of cool NY-ers wearing print leggings as everyday outfits – they were definitely not wearing these to the gym. My first thought: 'How comfy!' My second: 'I want a pair!' I've spied these retro numbers that I know I would live in at the weekend and there's also a matching sweatshirt that I could buy next payday.
"To go with my new 'ath-lee-sure' outfit, I'll obviously *need* a new pair of trainers. I can't afford the new Gucci ones (clocked a few of these trotting around the city, too – sigh), but these Veja pumps have a similar vibe and are far more affordable."
"Those who know me know I love frill, glitz and jumpers, so & Other Stories' frilly sparkle knit is perfect. The cosy alternative to a going-out top, I shall refer to this as my 'disco jumper' and wear it with a midi skirt and whatever ridiculously frivolous shoes I can get my hands on.
"I've really come to dislike clutch bags – there's never anywhere to put them down and I get cramp in my arm after a long night of clamping them to my side. Instead, I'll be heading into party season with a long-strap bag, like this velvet one from Mango. Added points for the curtain-tassel drawstring."
