Whilst this season might be all about dresses (wrap, long sleeved, gingham or otherwise), I’m stuck on skirts. Denim skirts to be exact. Yesterday I bumped into my friend Kate at a work event who was wearing a white, button-down skirt with a yellow blouse, tan belt and ankle boots. She looked incredible. Like a 1970s Jane Birkin.
The trick to the success of her skirt was in the shape; soft A-line and midi-length. It sat high on the waist making it perfect for a tucked-in top. “I could live in this”, she told me when I complimented her on it, “it’s just so easy to wear.”
Having not thought about denim skirts for a good couple of years, I suddenly could think of nothing else. In fact I spent most of last night scouring the internet for them. Perfect for wearing right now whilst it's sunny but there's still a nip in the air – just add spring sandals and you're good to go.
My friend's skirt is the Bell Skirt from MiH – gorgeous but not cheap. However I will say that I’ve got two old pairs of MiH jeans that still look as good as the day I bought them, so if you do feel inclined to splash out, it will last. As for me, I’m still paying off a holiday so i’ve got a black, button-down style in my shopping basket from Weekday which is under £50. I’ll wear it with tan clogs and a basket bag (the bag style of the summer FYI). I’m also eyeing up Madewell’s wrap skirt that would look ace with slingbacks and an army shirt.
