Why all I want to wear is a denim midi

Reconsidering the classic 1970s skirt

Whilst this season might be all about dresses (wrap, long sleeved, gingham or otherwise), I’m stuck on skirts. Denim skirts to be exact. Yesterday I bumped into my friend Kate at a work event who was wearing a white, button-down skirt with a yellow blouse, tan belt and ankle boots. She looked incredible. Like a 1970s Jane Birkin.

The trick to the success of her skirt was in the shape; soft A-line and midi-length. It sat high on the waist making it perfect for a tucked-in top. “I could live in this”, she told me when I complimented her on it, “it’s just so easy to wear.”

Having not thought about denim skirts for a good couple of years, I suddenly could think of nothing else. In fact I spent most of last night scouring the internet for them. Perfect for wearing right now whilst it's sunny but there's still a nip in the air – just add spring sandals and you're good to go.

My friend's skirt is the Bell Skirt from MiH – gorgeous but not cheap. However I will say that I’ve got two old pairs of MiH jeans that still look as good as the day I bought them, so if you do feel inclined to splash out, it will last. As for me, I’m still paying off a holiday so i’ve got a black, button-down style in my shopping basket from Weekday which is under £50. I’ll wear it with tan clogs and a basket bag (the bag style of the summer FYI). I’m also eyeing up Madewell’s wrap skirt that would look ace with slingbacks and an army shirt
