For years whenever I asked make-up artists what products they stocked up on overseas, the unanimous answer was CeraVe – an American “drugstore” skincare brand that offers top-notch products at affordable prices. Only available in the US, several beauty experts I know have spent years cramming pots into their suitcases to bring back to Blighty. But they need do that no longer because, since the beginning of spring, CeraVe is now available in the UK. Hurrah.
Established in 2006 by dermatologists, the brand majors on hydration and nourishment, and is especially great for dry skin, often being recommended for eczema sufferers. Boots currently stocks six CeraVe products, with the hero of the selection, in my opinion, being the Hydrating Cleanser.
Containing hyaluronic acid, this is a light, creamy lotion that gives a great clean and leaves your skin feeling soft and supple. It doesn't irritate, it’s fragrance-free and it’s good on sensitive skin. In short, it’s a brilliant, no-nonsense daily cleanser for dry to normal skin. The pump-top bottle, though lacking in shelf appeal, is perfect for sticking in the shower and delightfully uncomplicated to use. Press a couple of pumps into your palm, massage all over wet skin, then rinse. I find it gets rid of make-up, including non-waterproof mascara.
Although the cleanser is a favourite, the entire UK offering (which you will find in Boots) is worth having a look at. I’ve found the Moisturising Lotion a tiny bit too thin for my face (however my boyfriend loves it for its quick absorption), but I’ve had great success with the Moisturising Cream, an uber-pot of rich body moisturiser, which sinks in quickly and is perfect for dry elbows, knees, heels etc. I’ve been using it to keep the mild eczema on the tops of my arms at bay. A friend has also given a glowing review of the Foaming Cleanser: “super soft on my sensitive skin. No rash. Lovely.”
