It’s autumn: the season for red wine, great telly and all things comfort-related. In my opinion, this should extend to your beauty routine, which is why, this week, I’m talking silky, comforting balm cleansers.
I’ve mentioned before that I’m a big fan of face balms, not only for their excellent cleansing properties, but also their ability to transform a bogstandard face wash into an enjoyable ritual (it’s the little things in life). And the one that’s currently taking up residence on my bathroom shelf is Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm.
Perhaps a brand you’re yet to hear of, Merumaya focuses on great skincare with simple ingredients. While you won’t find creams in razzy packaging being promoted by glossy campaigns, what you will find is effective products that can be used by the whole family and are gentle enough for all skin types (including sensitive and acne-prone). Which brings me to my melting cleanser.
Full of sweet almond oil (moisturising) and mangosteen (anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and an antioxidant), the cleansing balm leaves your skin feeling not only clean, but also soft and supple. (The delicate floral smell is pretty wonderful, too.) Massage a blob all over your dry face and neck until you start to feel it melt (or until your mascara is halfway down your face), then wet your hands and continue massaging as the cleanser turns into a milky liquid. When you can massage no longer, rinse with warm water or, if you’re feeling fancy, a face cloth.
As well as the sweet almond and mangosteen, the balm also features echium oil. High in omegas 3, 6 and 9, this helps reduce lines, improves elasticity and generally keeps skin healthy.
Once finished, follow with your regular serum (if you’re looking for a new one try the Iconic Youth Serum) and/or moisturiser.
As with all Merumaya products, it’s made in the UK, and (it gets better) sign up to our Editor's Circle email and get a free 25ml size to test out. All in all, rather lovely.
