During a somewhat drunken Sunday lunch the other week, my friend turned to me and said, “F, I need you to sort me out with a new summer lipstick.” She went on to explain that she was after something summery and bright, but didn’t want anything that felt heavy and gloopy – “It’s just too hot for all of that.” Ideally, she wanted something with the smooth, easy feel of a lip balm and the colour pop of her favourite lippy. And to this I replied, “Bobbi Brown Crushed.”

Billed as where a lipstick meets a balm, Bobbi’s Crushed lip colours promise to be everything one could want from a summer lippy. Silky, soft, zingy in tone and easy to apply, you can swish on straight from the bullet or blot the colour on using your finger for a diffused, more laid-back effect.

Lipstick fiend and Pooler Amy Jones is a fellow Crushed fan, claiming it’s her best lipstick find in ages. Owning no less than three, she attests to the lipsticks’ moisture factor and lasting power: “It goes on smoothly – straight from the tube! No lip brush required! – and you can apply one layer for a sheeny colour or layer it up for a real ‘I am wearing lipstick’ look. Despite the strong colour, they feel moisturising, rather than drying, and they last well, only needing a top-up after you've eaten.”

Crushed comes in 23 summery shades, raging from bright coral to berry. Amy has Cherry, Crush (in her words, a glorious hot pink) and Regal, which is her new day-to-day red. My pick is Molly Wow, a pinky/coral that looks fabulous with a tan.
