A quick poll of our office determined that, for most of us, the single beauty product we couldn't live without is mascara. The rest could go, but fluttery, face-framing lashes were the one thing we'd always make time for before leaving the house. But even with only mascara to do, that's still a good five minutes of faff we could do without. So I tasked our editorial intern Kuba with trying and reporting back on Nouveau Lashes LVL Lash Lift, a treatment which claims to enhance your natural lashes to their best potential and enable you to wake up and head out without having to do a thing. Here's everything you need to know...

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFOREHAND?

LVL stands for length, volume and lift. Rather than lash extensions where inserts are added to your lashes, this treatment lifts your own lashes up from the roots to give them more volume and curl. At least forty-eight hours prior to your treatment, you'll need to carry out a patch test to check for any allergic reactions.

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Your lashes will be thoroughly cleansed and then combed through to make sure each lash can be individually treated. A shield is attached to your bottom lashes and your upper eye lid to protect them from the treatment. Then your lashes are pulled (very gently) upward onto the shield on your upper lid to keep them in place (your eyes will be closed throughout). A lifting balm is then applied just along the roots of your lashes, then a volumising lift is applied along the roots, followed by a tint to the top and bottom lashes. Finally a serum is applied to loosen your lashes from the shield.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

The treatment takes about 45 minutes to complete.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST AND WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT?

We lose lashes every day at different rates so this can vary, but results should last for around six to eight weeks. Depending on your lashes you can use much less mascara (just one or two coats instead of many) or go completely mascara free.

HOW MUCH DOES IT HURT?

It's not uncomfortable at all. In fact as your eyes are closed throughout, the treatment can actually feel relaxing.

WHAT'S THE AFTERCARE LIKE?

It's important not to get your lashes wet for 48 hours following the treatment, and to avoid steam (so no saunas or swimming). Other than that, they recommend treating your lashes daily with a nourishing serum like this one to keep them in top shape.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The price may vary depending on the salon and location you choose, but prices start from £45.

THE FEEDBACK

"My eyelashes are microscopic and very curly, so it's a struggle to make them stand out and I normally spend my mornings applying four or five coats of mascara. The LVL lash lift made my eyelashes appear longer, and thanks to the tint used during the process, much thicker. Following the treatment, I found that I used much less mascara – just one or two coats. But if you're gifted in the lash department, you'd probably be fine using the conditioning serum alone."
