Having worn a tinted moisturiser for the whole of the summer, I’ve decided it’s time to switch to something more autumnal. Less beachy bronze in a bikini, more wholesome and healthy in knits. Something with fuller coverage and a soft, silky texture, but still skin-like and fresh. While winter is the time for gorgeous velvety bases, I want something that has an air of summer afterglow.
I was introduce to Clinique’s new Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup SPF 15 last week and quickly became hooked. Sitting somewhere between a tint and a full-on base, the lightweight formula offers a sheer coverage that can easily be built to medium and successfully glosses over post-holiday breakouts without the need for a ton of concealer. As the name implies, it majors on the glow factor, using pearl pigments to create a pretty, luminous “I’ve been eating my 5-a-day” effect.
Also included is vitamin C (brightening), vitamin E (protecting) and salicylic acid, which helps exfoliate, thus leading to a more even-looking skintone – something I find particularly helpful during my biannual seasonal-changeover skin wobble. It has an SPF 15 and, if you have oily skin, fear not – this is an oil-free formula. It comes in 30 shades.
If you want a truly flawless finish, then apply with a good-quality synthetic-fibre foundation brush. Clinique also has a great one of these, as has Real Techniques. If, like me, you really can’t be naffed, then it also works well with finger application. A little goes a long way, so squeeze a dot on to the back of your hand, then blend.
