A bold red lip is my beauty trademark. My only one. Aside from that, it’s a slick of mascara and I’m out the door, but that bold lip makes me feel powerful, confident, feminine, sophisticated and beautiful all at once. I don’t feel quite so put together when, by 11am, my coffee cup is wearing the lipstick, not me. I hate lipstick marks. They’re like the "behind the scenes" of your look, right? No one wants to see those — not on your partner's cheeks, not on love letters, not on mugs, no thanks! In all my lipstick-wearing life, I’ve only come across one — MAC Ruby Woo — which actually stays on all day and won’t budge, but it dries out my lips something rotten, so it’s not without its flaws.
I’m constantly admiring other women who come in with different shades on each day, no lipstick on their cups
I’m constantly admiring other women who come in with different shades on each day, no lipstick on their cups. How? Well, I did a little research and, it turns out, it’s all about powder. In "setting" your lipstick with a translucent powder — a well-tested trick in the industry — you’re guaranteed a colour that won’t go anywhere, no matter what the brand. I tried it out and, happy days, it actually works!
Invest in an exfoliating lip balm or simply scrub lightly, using a toothbrush or flannel.
Apply your lippy
Blot with a tissue to remove excess oils.
The hero step
Separate out a tissue and place one leaf gently over your lips. Lightly brush translucent powder over the tissue.
SEE, NO MARKS!
This trick sets the colour and will stop it from slipping or fading (or ending up on your cup).
Finally, one last slick of colour – which won’t go anywhere, thanks to that solid base.
