A year in the life of a young Syrian refugee

  • DOCUMENTARY Britain's Refugee Children, 9pm, Channel 4

Abdul has spinal muscular atrophy and so uses a wheelchair, a complication that made his journey from war-torn Syria to Britain all the more distressing and dangerous. Luckily, the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme found Abdul and his entire family a house in Cardiff, where they have lived ever since. This heartfelt documentary records his first year living in Wales and attending his new school, where the pupils are helpful and welcoming. But it's a different story for some Syrian children, who – unlike Abdul – don't come over with their refugee status confirmed, and face long waits and questioning at the hands of the Home Office.
