  • Folk off to Manchester

The second Manchester Folk Festival kicks off all weekend, finding its home in the aptly named arts centre, HOME. The celebration is dedicated to highlighting some of England's best folk groups and solo acts, as well as bringing folk's history of protest bang up to date. This Is The Kit and the Melrose Quartet are the headliners of the extensive line-up, but it's always worth seeing some of the smaller unknown bands – you might just discover a gem. Buy your tickets here.

  • Tell a tale

Scotland is famous for many things – haggis, kilts, Sean Connery. But did you know they also host one of the most renowned storytelling festivals in the world? The Scottish International Festival of Storytelling begins today and continues all the way through October. There are storytellers from all over the world on the line-up, sharing their culture and traditional methods of telling tales. Find out more about the line-up and tickets here.

  • Scare yourself silly

You're either a Halloween person or you spend the evening at home, under the duvet with the door locked. If you love everything spooky, however, you'll be very pleased to know that a sequel to horror classic Halloween is out today. Featuring the original cast of Mike Myers and Jamie Lee Curtis, its the perfect cinema trip to get you ready for the end of the month – and maybe you'll pick up some new fancy-dress outfit inspiration.

  • Book now for later

London's V&A museum has announced its next major fashion exhibition – a celebration of the life and work of iconic designer Christian Dior. From his beginnings in the 1940s to creating one of the world's most recognisable fashion houses, this will be the exhibition to see next year. Get your tickets here now, as they're sure to sell out.
